If you like jazz music, I'm sure that you'd know who
Herbie Hancock is. Even if you don't listen to jazz, by
now, you probably have heard about him too - 'cos
Herbie is the winner of Grammy 2008 Best Album of the
Year (held on Feb 10) with his album "River" !
It's a great day for jazz on Feb 10 - the first time a jazz
musician has won the award since 1964 which is 44 years
ago! Just imagine that - for a jazz album to win
"Album of the Year"...in the pop trash culture we live in
today...that's just amazing. And he has already won 10
Grammy's before this one.
Personally I don't listen to a lot of jazz. But there are a few
exceptions...and Herbie's is one one them - 'cos I love piano
music.
Born 1940 in Illinois, Chicago, Herbie Hancock first started
with a classical music education. During his high school days,
Hancock grew to like jazz after hearing some Oscar Peterson
and George Shearing recordings.
I especially love the spectacular keyboard performance he
did with Lang Lang at the Grammy 2008 Ceremony, playing
my favorite piano concerto "Rhapsody in Blue", composed by
G. Gershwin.
Lang Lang is one of the world's most talented young pianist
(in fact, a prodigy) from Shenyang in Liaoning, China.
Here's the video clip of the performance:
